Physical property of mitotic chromosomes optimized for chromosome segregation

In this project, we focus on the physical property of mitotic chromosomes, and aim to reveal how shape and plasticity of chromosomes are optimized for chromosome segregation. While mitotic chromosomes are condensed and individualized, they change their morphology dynamically, although its underlying physical property and contribution to chromosome segregation are elusive. In this project, we clarify these issues by visualizing the ends of particular chromosomes and observing their morphological changes in real time.
