The role of acrosome and nuclear pore on the changes of physical properties and nuclear morphology of sperm chromatin

We discovered a new protein degradation system that uses the Golgi membrane (GOMED) and identified the essential gene, Gomed-1. The mice lacking gomed-1 showed male infertility. At spermatogenesis, we observed abnormalities in both acrosomal development and nuclear membrane structure, which may cause the abnormal shape of the spermatid head and incomplete chromatin condensation. We aim to elucidate the mechanisms as to how acrosome and nuclear membrane regulate chromatin condensation and nuclear morphology.
